James Long was born in the United States in 1953. He works and lives in the West Village of New York City. Long studied at Rhode island School of Design, graduating in 1977. With continual study that includes Brown University, Kansas City Art Institute, Parson’s School of Design, Pratt University and Fashion Institute of Technology, New York/Paris.
Long uses the term “placelessness” associated with pursuit of his longtime passion of creativity in the 50 plus years he has worked albeit at the exclusion of artists and designers of color. “It is important that we acknowledge the contributions in the arts by people of color, we bring change for the betterment of humankind, and society benefits, from that day forward”.
He has exhibited in galleries and site-specific installations in juried competitions throughout the United States, Canada and Spain, which garnered awards of excellence, his continued creative expression can be found in his artistic work that includes drawing, writing, design, digital media, photography, video, and installation.
